Obesity Tax

Last night I was talking to my friend who lives in New York about the obesity tax that is supposedly going to help the state of New York. I am all for trying to be healthy but I am reminded of the words of Thomas Jefferson. You know.....Our forefathers were so smart in knowing what was coming!

"If people let the government decide what foods they eat and what medicines they take, their bodies will soon be in as sorry a state as are the souls who live under tyranny." Thomas Jefferson

When I watched my govenor on TV put this into place, I felt.. Well, we knew they would come up to offset the lost revenue from cigarette tax. I know we need revenue but we allowed the NY State Lottery to help fund education yet all our schools are on the news about in dire need for money and possibly closing some public schools? Why.. And even though I usually drink diet soda, I don't think this is a very good idea because where does it end? What will be taxed next? Sugar? Tea? Coffee?? I was one that signed for an amendment to the bottle bill so that sports drinks and water bottles would have a deposit as hardly any don't go into landfills, and they get dropped on the ground. They even said that uncollected deposits at stores might be collected to help pay for waste program expenses. Where would all this money go is an interesting question.
